Happy Columbus Day Weekend! On this day in 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue and discovered our great country…or so he thought. Regardless of what he actually discovered, this is a weekend where we as Americans celebrate the place we call home. Here are some fun ways to enjoy your three-day weekend in New York City!
1. Go to the Columbus Day Parade!
On Monday, October 12, 2015, NYC will be filled with the spirit of discovery, adventure and Italian-American culture! The parade will be located on Fifth Avenue, from 47th to 72nd streets from 11:00 am to 3:00pm. Join this famous event in its 71st year and have fun with friends and family!
2. Check out art museums for all ages!
New York is famous for the museums that house its vast and glorious history. Some of these that have exciting exhibits you can visit this Columbus weekend are: The New York Historical Society is featuring an exhibit called Superheroes in Gotham; Discovery Times Square is showing an exhibition featuring all things The Hunger Games; and the Children’s Museum of the Arts which is celebrating Architecture and Design Month and features early hours during this holiday weekend if you want to do a lot during your day.
3. Adventure to the Zoo
Embrace your inner child and spend your day with the lions, tigers and bears, oh my! Journey to The Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and Queens Zoo, which will be open on Monday for you and your friends to enjoy!
4. Apple or Pumpkin Picking
The benefit of being in New York City is being so close to more rural areas that are a good escape from the hustle and bustle of being in a city! Go pumpkin picking, apple picking, or adventure in a corn maze. It’s a great way to spend a day with your significant other or your group of friends, and is a great photo opportunity for your Instagram!
5. Have a party
We’ve saved the best idea for last! Throw a party to celebrate a day off of work and show your friends and family a good time! Enjoy the time off and celebrate all things America. You can have an America theme, an Italian theme, or most fun, a sailor themed party. Our Pinterest page will help you in planning and making it the best it can be.
